Cutlass at the ready!
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Waltham Forest.
- Sunday, 4th of August 2019
We were greeted by the lovely Mr B who welcomed myself and Kirsty into his home.
He set us to work with gardening tasks. Kirsty started with the weeding and.. I used the Cutlass to chop down the over grown hedges. Mr. B said the cutlass travelled with him from Trinidad 30 years ago. We questioned how he managed to get it through security 🤔 a mystery..
Mr. B gave us a demo of his cutlass and weaponry skills, effortlessly angling the sword at the right direction to get the perfect execution. Down with the over hanging hedges!! Alas, the sun shines brighter now the hedge is down!
On the ground, Kirsty tossed and turned soil and dug deep to reach the deep stubborn weeded roots. The garden was cleared and Mr. B came and greeted us with carrot juice in the garden and was smiling ear to ear with his garden. "Now I can put some grass down and maybe get some vegetables sown again". Mr. B talked about his fondness for gardening but in recent years due to his back he has had difficulties bending and stooping which means he cannot do the gardening. Now the garden is cleared he can enjoy spending longer in the garden and feeding the birds in the morning.
After we finished our work Mr B insisted we tried his cuisine! He had prepared spiced corn on the cob and....... PIGS TAILS. A very interesting dish to say the least! We had a little to try! I don't know if I would make it a regular ingredient on my shopping list 😂 none the less it was an experience!
Mr. B was so thankful and as we said our goodbyes!
