Compost Bin Must Go
8 GoodGymers made their way to help the Greenfields Garden in York.

A lot has happened at the task today. To start the task owner Louise was late good 5 minutes and since she is always early we started thinking how we could access the tools to make a start with the task. There was no need for alternative solutions however, as Louise soon joined us.
Equipped with wheelbarrows, forks and spades we continued emptying the compost bins, weeded one of the beds and added some compost on top ready for potatoes to go in and moved several pots with walnut tree saplings to a temporary accommodation on top of a wooden pallet.
Carl generously shared his knowledge about plants. We learnt that dandelion and ground elder are edible and that if you source organic ginger root you could use yeasts growing on its skin to make homemade beer.
We haven't quite managed to empty all the contents of the compost bins, however a group of volunteers from York Cares is expected to finish it off early next week, in readiness for the Wednesday crew to start rebuilding the structure.
What I liked best about the task today was the opportunity to see Carl and Louise for whom it was a first group mission since the lockdown, and to welcome our new member Jon who just recently moved to York and made an excellent choice to join GoodGym. Give him a big Cheer!
