Mission

Backed into a very tight corner.

One of those missions where on paper it sounded pretty straightforward, but the reality unfortunately proved somewhat different. Ms E needed a chest of drawers and at least one wardrobe removed from her bedroom so that carers could have more space once her new medical bed is delivered. Peter and I were able to get the chest of drawers up and over Ms E's bed (she was still in it watching daytime TV and commenting happily on our efforts) and up the narrow staircase to the spare room reasonably easily.

Our real challenge (nemesis?) proved to be her quite sizeable wardrobe - once emptied, we got this lifted over the bed and out of her bedroom, but then got stuck in the passageway where there was just no way to get it to fit round the corner and up the stairs. Not to be deterred we dug out our respective toolkits (here I'll admit my multitool felt inadequate against Peter's well stocked, almost A-team like, armoury) to see if we could dismantle it (something Ms E had been suggesting all along from her bed).

After almost an hour of effort, we conceded defeat - unable to release a number of the bolts holding side panels to the top and bottom. A quick management meeting followed involving Ms E, her friend Mr R, Peter and I - the conclusion of which was to move the wardrobe back to its original space in Ms E's bedroom as otherwise it would block any access to/from her bedroom and the front door. Once done, we had another chat with Mr R about volunteers returning to help further once the medical bed was delivered and he had a clearer idea of what needed to be done in the room.

So not a complete win this time for team GoodGym, but at least we got the chest moved out of the way, and we clearly entertained and amused Ms E with our efforts as she watched her wardrobe pass over her bed twice in one morning.

Sounds like a tricky mission. Well done Peter and Nick for doing the best you can. We will report back to the referrer and let them know the task couldn't be completed 100%.
