Wowwsaaaa 20 superb Goodgymmers ran 5km and cleared sooo much Ivy. Tower Hamlets, you were awesome! And now a run report from our feature writer, Alex!!
This week at GG Tower Hamlets it was West meets East as the fantastic Lisa from GG Ealing led an enthusiastic, 20-strong group (including some welcome new faces, big welcome to Andrew and Miranda!) to Mile End Cemetery to relieve the trees of some bothersome ivy.
In perfect spring evening conditions, we set off through Mile End park, sussing out the hill which we'd be tackling in the fitness session later, on our way to the task. Equipped with gardening gloves and headtorches, the group split up to tackle the ivy - liberating plants, trees & tombstones, and adding to what became a formidable compost pile. It was a great effort from the group, particularly those who ended up scaling trees to chase the ivy!
After, we returned to the park where we split into the aptly named Teams Awesome & Amazing for some hill sprints, punctuated with squats, planks, burpees and other exercises. A gentle jog along the canal brought to a close another job well done for the Tower Hamlets crew. Look forward to seeing you there again next week!
