Ain't Miss B-having

2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.

On a hot and humid evening, David and Patrick united from North and South London to clear B's front garden and brighten up the view from her room

Back to front

I'd met B before and helped her with the classic GoodGym mission of changing her lightbulbs but today's help was outdoors. B is a big fan of GoodGym as she also had some GoodGym green claws help in the back garden but today we were tackling the front.

"I'm your biggest fan!" said B

Alas, B has recently spent some time in hospital. She ain't in any condition to be pulling out thorns, brambles and weeds but David and I were in need of a workout which was more of a cool down after the respective cycle and runs to meet.

Thorning glory

B wanted us to take back approximately half the weeds from the front garden; she actually liked some green so didn't want everything taken away. Hidden among the greens were some short thistles, but thankfully our thick gloves game us good, but not full, protection. We still had to be a bit careful.

B was most concerned about the giant brambles which had dominated the "pit" in front of her bay window and were affecting how much light gets in.

Three sets of secateurs, but sheariously, no shears?

I had my trusty folding secateurs, named HECTOR by Mridula on a previous mission but then David had also brought a pair AND we also had a pair from B!

I said we could've done with shears and felt a bit funny explaining the difference to B! She agreed that the large blades would make it much easier to cut down swathes of weeds rather than the precision of secateurs. Never mind, as it happens, the weeds were so weak (or maybe we were so strong!) that we could just give them a tug and they were uprooted.

Lights, camera, action

B was really interested in exchanging stories about her daughter's experience in lighting with David. I also enjoyed hearing about the range of "gigs" David has been involved with and noted that I might need expert lighting soon! I was also most impressed by David's recent marathon time and achieving a Good For Age time; well done!

You can call on G

B was delighted with the improvement in her garden and said it won't be the last we hear from her! When she needs her lightbulbs changing she will call on GG.
