Aiding and Abedding
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.
- Friday, 7th of August 2020
A sweltering 35 degree middayer. I meet Dom and our contact Helena to assemble a bed so Mr A can be discharged from hospital. The flat is on floor 8 so we head towards the lift. “Where are the stairs, I’ll race you!” says Dom. Madness, but we do beat him by a hair.
In the flat are all the ingredients for make-your-own-Bed-just-add-elbow-grease. We unpack, take stock, and make short work of it between us, mostly thanks to Dom’s swiss army knife, very proper-looking toolbox and whizzy electric screwdriver. This may have been my first furniture-related mission but definitely not Dom’s!
Mattress on, sheet on and the bed sandwich is complete. We figure out how to chuck the polystyrene and plastic down a chute which becomes a mini-mission of itself. Dom opts for stairs again on way down, and this time beats US by a hair.
We flatten and recycle boxes, and part ways homewards. We wish Mr A best of luck coming home from hospital!
