A table, some chairs...and the bin's downstairs.
2 GoodGymers made their way to help an isolated older person in Southwark.
- Thursday, 6th of February 2020
Kim and I met outside Ms S's home on a very sunny Thursday afternoon and having proceeded inside, we then discussed the challenge at hand in her living room - namely moving a number of items (dining table, various chairs and a commode) to create space for a new medical bed. We then took part in what felt like a game of live Tetris (the electronic game involving moving various odd shaped bricks around a confined space to make them all fit...), as well as tidying up Ms S's various possessions, ensuring we checked with her what she wanted to keep and what we could throw out (a sad farewell was given to a torn Dawn French programme cover....). Ms S proved to be engaging throughout, providing us with motivational phrases as we went about our tasks, and before long we were having a final conference to determine the final (at least for now) location of her two favourite chairs. After an hour, the game was over - we'd moved, tidied, hoovered (and after a few attempts even got the hoover cable to retract back into the unit) - and hopefully improved Ms S's living area for the arrival of her bed. With the sun still shining as we left, and crocuses (croci - ed?) already appearing in the nearby park, we both agreed there were worse ways to spend a Thursday afternoon in SE London!
