A half art's job.... kinda
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Camden.
- Tuesday, 1st of September 2020
Mrs Y's mission was a different one, as she was located down the road from my office and I'd previously popped by on a mission to deliver a letter for her, I jumped (ran slowly) at the chance to help out with the unusual request.
Due to her being disabled she hadn't left the flat in around a year so the idea was to get her outside with some of her art for people to admire at a safe distance. She previously sold her art for years at Covent Garden market. Unfortunately once Mrs Y and all her art were safely down in the lobby, after some time observing the street through the window, she decided she wanted to go back inside. As I ran up and down the three floors with her art she consistently commented on the fact she used to be like me and she had forgotten what it's like to be so able. A stark reminder to never take your legs for granted (no matter how slowly they run!).
Once everything was safely back in her flat she asked if she could talk to me about some of her pieces. This included a framed letter from the Queen personally thanking her for sending in a painting of the Queens mother! After some time chatting I was on my way. Despite the mission not going ahead completely as planned, Mrs Y informed me it was the most exciting day she had had in ages.
