“A friendly voice on the phone is better than a bag of food!”
1 GoodGymer made their way to help an isolated older person in Lewisham.
- Thursday, 7th of May 2020
I rang Ms Y yesterday afternoon to confirm her mission but she was a little confused and asked me to ring the next morning (the mission was at 11). So I rang and asked her shopping list / whether I should come to her first or the shop first. She explained to me her daughter had got her SO much food that her freezer was so full she had enough food for quite some time. She also explained that Lewisham were giving her free food boxes so she didn’t want a shop from GoodGym on top of that. Though the original mission didn’t take place Ms Y explained that she missed phone calls, conversations and friendly voices a lot more than bags and bags of food. So we had a lovely conversation about Dulwich and Sydenham Woods. We spoke about our favourite biscuits to dip in tea (mine digestive, ms Y said ginger nuts...) and she was very grateful for “a friendly voice”.

It's great that you were able to have a good chat with Ms Y, Nat, even if she didn't need any food in the end.
